ArcIMS

The Township recently purchased the Environmental Research Systems Institute's (ESRI) Arc Internet Map Server ( ArcIMS) 4.0 software. The ArcIMS software's implementation progress will take several months, with an expected launch date in late spring or early summer 2004.

ESRI's ArcIMS software is currently in use in hundreds of interactive mapping sites around the world including this example site for Greenwood County, South Carolina. The GIS Department looks forward to leveraging our GIS datasets by providing access to our township residents and the world.
Zoning Map Thumbnail

Official Zoning Map In Progress - The GIS Department is currently working with the Planning and Zoning Department to create an official zoning map for Grand Blanc Township. The map is scheduled to be released at approximately the same time as the updated township Master Plan.
Expansion of GIS into Police and Fire Departments - Grand Blanc Township's Police Department and Grand Blanc Township/City Fire Departments are beginning to use GIS on a daily basis. The Grand Blanc Township Police Department utilizes the innovative CrimeView mapping software to map daily crime locations including: arrests; calls for service; and traffic accidents. Among some of the current project include the production of site maps showing hazardous chemical producers within the township. Future plans include the possibility of adding hazardous spill modeling software within the Fire Department.
Man Reading Meter Department of Public Works manhole and hydrant GPS collection - Over the past several years, the Department of Public Works (DPW), in conjunction with the GIS Department, have collected over 6000 water fixtures and 4,700 sanitary sewer manholes using state-of-the-art global positioning system (GPS) equipment. The Charter Township of Grand Blanc utilizes the Trimble ProXR GPS unit, which is capable of locating points on the Earth's surface down to an accuracy of approximately 1-meter.
