March started out with our Attorney meeting with Mr. Lattie which covered a host of questions, ranging from personnel issues to settling complaints between residents, from abatements to roads and budget issues. The next day, Earl, Cathy, Dick and I met with the auditors for a pre audit meeting. On the third, Dick and I met with a vendor on retirement systems who had asked to meet with us. Then, I attended the County Technical Advisory Committee in the afternoon, where we discussed the status of the Transportation Improvement Programs for years 2011-2014, the Call for Safety Projects for year 2013, the schedule of events and seminars for the Michigan Transportation Planning Association Conference. We also viewed a power point presentation on the Road-Soft GIS program. Friday morning was the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce. The speaker was James Rice, the Director of Bishop International Airport. He gave the audience a great background on the growth of the airport, and how it has withstood competition in moving ahead in its vision for the area.
Monday, the 7th, was a “catch up and organize day” of phone calls, e-mails scheduling. Tuesday was the regular attorney meeting. That night was the Committee of the Whole. Wednesday, I went to Detroit to meet with Attorney Fanning to go over further plans on negotiations for W, V. and S. and a 312 hearing. In the afternoon, I met with Tony and Sharon to discuss tax tribunal case of the Medical Sports Center at Genesys. Thursday morning, I had a mediation and in the afternoon, Grand Blanc hosted the County meeting for the Freight Connectivity Project. That night was the Board Meeting. Friday morning, I attended a meeting that Mike had set up with the Grand Blanc Chamber regarding the sign ordinance. Ryan and Cathy also attended. There were about twenty people at the meeting and it was a good frank discussion on how we could work together to everyone’s advantage. After that meeting, Kirk and I went to a luncheon meeting with John Matonich, CEO of Rowe Engineering.
On the 14th, I attended a meeting hosted by Paul Scott at Brick Street with Jase Bolger, Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives as the speaker at this meeting. In the afternoon, I attended a meeting of the County Energy Council at the MTA Building. The following day was a Public Policy meeting at the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce. Then, I talked to Debbie Honea about the door for the Perry house and went to Dave Lattie’s office for some procedural advice. That evening, I met with Chief Harmes, Paul Bush, Todd Barnes and Hans Rodgers in regard to some questions about the Fire Commission budget.
The next morning was the Supervisor’s breakfast get-together and the Water and Waste monthly meeting. The majority of the discussion revolved around the Detroit Water Service Contract. A copy is available in my office if you wish to go over it. The resulting rates from Detroit are available on the web site of the Genesee County Drain Commission. The water cost to Grand Blanc Township will now be $2.96 up from $2.11 per 100 cubic ft. of water. That night, I was a judge for the Optimist International Club Oratorical Contest. Those middle school speakers did an outstanding job. Each year this contest gets better and better. On the 17th, the Regional Chamber had a “Visioning Session” and that night was the County MTA meeting at Atlas Township. At lunch on Friday, I listened to the other side of what is going on in Lansing from Michigan House of Representatives speakers Charles Smiley and Jim Ananich. After that, I met with Duane Miller and Janice Karcher of the Genesee Regional Chamber here at the township.
Monday, the 20th, I met with others at the invitation of the county treasurer to discuss ways of preventing foreclosures. The next day was the attorney meeting and follow-up on the DPW budget, tax abatements and growth, and the status of various road and pathways. After that, I attended a meeting at the Genesee Regional Chamber office on a regional concept centered around the airport and following along I-69 called an Aerotropolis. This is following the governor’s regional growth plan. The next day was the Press Conference and Annual Meeting of the Genesee Regional Chamber at the Riverfront Center. I am now part of their Strategic Planning Board as well as the Public Policy Committee. The following day, I took part in a conference call with Lyndon Lattie, Tony, Becky, Sharon, Randy Byrne and the city assessor and two representatives from GM on their tax appeal on the Tool Weld Plant. Then, I attended a meeting on the Evatt “E” Committee (Environment, Education, and Ecology) on the Arbor Day Celebration we are presenting in conjunction with the Historical Commission. That night was the Grand Blanc Chamber Awards Dinner where people get to see what outstanding, giving, community minded people we have in Grand Blanc. The 25th, Kirk and I met with Ken Johnson and Fred Prevandi from the Road Commission and Sheila Taylor and Anna King from County Planning on our CMAQ grant. After a follow-up discussion with Rowe, it was decided that although the construction of the pathway down Embury Road would be completely paid by the grant, the engineering and easements involved would be too costly, especially with the amount of wetlands along this roadway. That afternoon was the second round of negotiations with W, S, and V. We are making progress. That afternoon was another Aerotropolis meeting and then a Historic Commission meeting. Tuesday was the regular attorney meeting and preparation for the 4th Tuesday meeting that night. Wednesday and Thursday were amazingly light, so I was able to concentrate on things in the township and what was coming up in April. Best wishes and good health to all. That wraps it up for this month.
